Women's Skills Training Program Graduates 50
Celebrating the success of women entrepreneurs who completed our comprehensive vocational training program.
Empowering Women Through Skills and Opportunity
The Domhene Foundation proudly celebrated the graduation of 50 women who successfully completed a six-month intensive vocational training program, designed to empower women with practical, income-generating skills. The graduation ceremony, filled with joy and pride, marked another milestone in the Foundation’s mission to promote economic independence and gender equality across underserved communities in Ghana.
Building Confidence and Careers
Over the past six months, participants underwent hands-on training in diverse trades including tailoring, hairdressing, soap making, and food processing. The program combined technical skill development with essential business training—covering topics such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, customer service, and marketing—to help each participant turn their new skills into sustainable livelihoods.
For many of the women, this was more than just a training opportunity—it was a lifeline. Several joined the program after years of struggling to secure stable income or after losing jobs during the recent economic downturn. Through the Foundation’s mentorship and community support, they discovered a renewed sense of purpose, confidence, and hope for the future.
Success Stories of Transformation
The impact of the program is already visible. A number of graduates have started their own small enterprises with seed funding and start-up kits provided by the Domhene Foundation.
One remarkable example is Akosua Owusu, a graduate of the soap-making course. With the support she received from the Foundation, Akosua established a thriving home-based business that now employs three other women in her community. Her products have become popular in local markets, and she dreams of expanding to supply nearby schools and shops.
Another participant, Mary Adu, who trained in tailoring, has opened a small sewing shop. She now makes uniforms and traditional garments for her neighbors while mentoring two apprentices. “This program changed my life,” she said with a smile. “Now I can provide for my children and still do something I love.”
These individual stories reflect the broader vision of the Foundation—empowering one woman at a time to build a ripple effect of positive change within her family and community.
Looking Ahead: Expanding Opportunity
Encouraged by the success of this cohort, the Domhene Foundation is already preparing for the next phase of expansion. In the coming year, the Foundation aims to train 200 additional women through similar vocational programs. The new training cycle will introduce more diverse and in-demand skills, including catering, beauty therapy, and digital marketing, ensuring participants are well-equipped to adapt to evolving market needs.
According to the Foundation’s leadership, this initiative is part of a long-term commitment to reducing poverty, promoting women’s economic empowerment, and strengthening community resilience.
“When women are equipped with the right skills and support, they don’t just transform their own lives—they uplift entire communities,” said a Foundation representative during the event. “That’s the heart of what the Domhene Foundation stands for.”
A Shared Vision for the Future
The graduation ceremony concluded with a strong message of unity and progress. Families, local leaders, and supporters gathered to celebrate the achievements of the women and to reaffirm their shared vision of an empowered, self-sufficient community.
As the Foundation continues to expand its reach, it remains committed to ensuring that no woman is left behind in the journey toward independence and opportunity.
The success of this program is a testament to what can be achieved when compassion, training, and partnership come together to create lasting impact.
